Is transportation provided to and from the conference sessions?
Attendees must provide their own transportation to the Pittsburgh Airport Marriott but transportation will be provided for the conference sessions on Saturday departing from the Marriott in the morning and returning after the dinner keynote.

The Friday evening Welcome Networking Reception for attendees and sponsors will take place at the Pittsburgh Airport Marriott.
Please join us when you get into town.

Saturday’s sessions will take place on the Carnegie Mellon University campus. A bus will transport attendees from the Marriott to campus in the morning and back to the Marriott in the evening. Attendees who miss the bus Saturday morning are responsible for their own transportation to campus and the costs involved.

Sunday’s student congress will take place at the Pittsburgh Airport Marriott and end by noon so attendees have time to travel home.

Are there travel stipends available?
The first 25 chapters who register will be eligible for up to $500 travel reimbursement. An expense report will be provided to the chapters following the conference. All original receipts must be attached and returned to Headquarters for reimbursement. No advancements.

The check will be made out to the chapter and can be divided to the appropriate parties for reimbursement by the chapter officers.

The following expenses are eligible for reimbursement with original receipts:

  • Hotel room and tax (no incidentals such as room service, movies, internet, phone, etc.)
  • Transportation Costs:
    • Gasoline
    • Bus ticket
    • Train ticket
    • Airfare

Any questions regarding the travel stipend can be directed to HKN Headquarters (info@hkn.org).

What is the Student Congress on Sunday morning?
Dr. Bruce Eisenstein, HKN President, will lead a discussion about the future of HKN. The recent IEEE-HKN merger deliberations have raised a number of questions and the Board of Governors is interested in sharing their vision of HKN in the future.

This will be a great opportunity for the chapters to share successes and frustrations, and seek input from other chapters and the Board of Governors about chapter management.

What are the networking opportunities available to me at the conference?
HKN has sought the support of a variety of corporate partners who are interested in getting more involved in HKN and in recruiting HKN members. A number of those companies will send representatives to the conference and a resume CD will be provided to each sponsor comprising the attendees’ resumes. Chapters are also invited to bring a chapter resume CD or book to present to the sponsoring companies. The Friday evening Welcome Reception is the perfect opportunity to interact with students across the country as well as corporate representatives. It is an Open House so feel free to stop in whenever you get into town. Light hors d’oeuvres will be served.

Networking with other chapters across the country will provide insights into project ideas, recruiting tips, fundraising projects, and much more.

What are the topics being discussed and who will be speaking?

To register, please fill out one registration form per attendee and fax or e-mail it to Headquarters. (Fax: 1-800-864-2051 or e-mail: info@hkn.org) Registrations are due October 24, 2008.
