Dear IEEE-HKN Members and Friends:
2010-2011 saw many exciting activities for IEEE and HKN. On 1 September 2010, the merger between IEEE and the Eta Kappa Nu Association became effective forming the new IEEE-Eta Kappa Nu (IEEE-HKN).
In 2011, our awards program recognized outstanding accomplishments of students, chapters, professors, and professionals. Two Eminent Members, Leah H. Jamieson and Matt Ettus, were recognized at the IEEE Honors Ceremony in August. Leon Kleinrock was recognized as an Eminent Member at the IEEE Educational Activities Board (EAB) Awards Ceremony in November. Dr. Thomas Kailath received the 2010 Vladimir Karapetoff Outstanding Technical Achievement Award at a luncheon presentation in April in Philadelphia, PA with students from many local chapters. Also present were colleagues and several past, as well as the present, IEEE Presidents. The Outstanding Chapter, Teaching, and ECE Student awards were presented last March in front of some 150+ university ECE department heads from across North America.
The 2011 student leadership conference, hosted by the Alpha Chapter (University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign), gathered students from chapters across the country for a weekend of leadership development and chapter discussions. Group projects were a fun way to get to know other IEEE-HKN student members and learn about communication and entrepreneurship. Various speakers in attendance provided those present with an opportunity to network and consider the future direction of their careers. Thanks to the generous donations of IEEE-HKN members, there was no registration fee to attend this conference.
THE BRIDGE magazine continues to provide access to the latest developments in the fields of interest of IEEE and the engineering profession. Our last issue, "Shining a Light on Electronic Design in the 21st Century," featured articles from members who have taken their careers down a path that may be atypical of many engineers. The opportunities are endless for IEEE-HKN members leading the way in technology! We encourage you to share your experiences in a feature article or in a short Member Profile.
To continue to support our activities, many of which are student based, requires financial support. To that end the 2011 Annual Contribution Campaign has been in full swing, and we ask for donations of time, talent, and finances in order to continue to serve the future leaders in electrical and computer engineering, and the IEEE designated fields of interest. Donations to IEEE-HKN are tax deductible and can be made to the IEEE-Eta Kappa Nu Restricted Fund at this link through the IEEE Foundation http://www.ieee.org/organizations/foundation/index.html. Just click on the "Donate Online" button
Or, contributions can be mailed to:
IEEE-Eta Kappa Nu Headquarters
445 Hoes Lane
Piscataway, NJ 08854 USA
Thank you in advance for your support and participation in IEEE-Eta Kappa Nu.
Sincerely,
Fern E. Katronetsky
IEEE-HKN Executive Director
