H. Vincent Poor

H. Vincent Poor received the B.E.E. and M.S. degrees from Auburn University in 1971 and 1974, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree from Princeton University in 1977. He is currently the Dean of Engineering and Applied Science at Princeton, where he is also the Michael Henry Strater University Professor of Electrical Engineering. Before joining the Princeton faculty in 1990, he taught for many years at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He has also held visiting positions at a number of other institutions, including recently at Harvard, Stanford and Imperial College. His professional interests include the fields of communications and signal processing, and he is the author of more than 750 publications in these fields, including 10 books.

Dr. Poor is a member of the U. S. National Academy of Engineering, a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts & Sciences, and a former Guggenheim Fellow. He is also a Fellow of the IEEE, the Institute of Mathematical Statistics, the Optical Society of America, and other scientific and technical organizations. He has served as President of the IEEE Information Theory Society, as a member of the IEEE Board of Directors, and as Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Transactions on Information Theory. Recent recognition of his work includes the 2005 Tau Beta Pi Distinguished Alumnus Award, the 2005 IEEE James H. Mulligan, Jr., Education Medal, the 2007 IEEE Marconi Prize Paper Award, the 2007 Technical Achievement Award of the IEEE Signal Processing Society, and the 2008 Aaron D. Wyner Distinguished Service Award of the IEEE Information Theory Society. He is a member of Xi chapter of Eta Kappa Nu.
